This cold brew tonic recipe is easy to make and always delicious and refreshing.

It seems to be the summer of cold tonics here in Europe. ♡

We’ve seen them featured on cafe menus everywhere we’ve traveled recently. And after tasting a few, I understand the draw – they are so fizzy and refreshing!

The concept is as it sounds – the cold brew concentrate is served over ice, topped with sparkling tonic water and garnished with a slice of lemon or orange. We’ve also seen different espresso-based versions, but I have to say that I definitely prefer the smoother, non-acidic flavor of cold brew in this drink. It pairs perfectly with the more bitter botanical flavor of tonic water (Fever Tree is my favorite). And when served chilled with a citrus drizzle on a hot summer day, this drink is downright delicious.

Here’s how to make one!

Cold Brew Tonic Ingredients

Before we move on to the full recipe below, here are some notes on the four ingredients you’ll need to make this cold brew tonic recipe:

  • Cold Infusion Concentrate: Feel free to make homemade cold brew concentrate (significantly in terms of how strong their concentrate can be. So I would recommend starting with a little less concentrate and then tasting the drink, and you can always add more if you want.
  • Tonic water: I really like the classic Fever Tree tonic water flavor in this drink, but feel free to use whatever brand of tonic water you prefer.
  • Citrus: I recommend serving the drink with a squeeze of fresh orange or lemon, which adds such a nice citrus kick to the drink.
  • Ice: Finally, you will need a glass full of ice to serve this drink.

Variants

Here are some other variations you are welcome to try:

  • Add sweetener: Tonic water already adds a significant sweetness to this drink. But if you prefer your coffee to be even sweeter, you can add simple syrup or your favorite sweetener.
  • Add a cherry: For a fun cocktail twist, we sometimes like to add a Luxardo cherry to our cold brew tonics.
  • Use flavored tonic water: There are all kinds of flavored tonic waters these days that could add some interesting notes to this drink. But please choose wisely… some flavors might also be a little disastrous. 😉
  • Use espresso: You can also swap out a freshly brewed espresso for a cold brew concentrate if you like. I would just recommend putting the espresso shots in the freezer for 10 minutes before you make the drink so they don’t melt the ice too much.
